Visually Impaired Series II
– Palimpsest
15 x 20 each
Acrylic gelli print on organza fabric
This installation draws inspiration from my interactions with the visually impaired and highlights the complexity of facial expressions. While most of us naturally use facial expressions to convey emotions, this visual language remains a mystery to the visually impaired. Lacking this ability can create a huge communication gap, leading to discomfort or a sense of helplessness in social settings. For this piece, I gelli printed the expressions of 5 visually impaired students on organza cloth to depict the ambiguity of these faces and the confusion they create when presented all at once. The overlapping prints obscure the true emotional intent conveyed.
