Reconstruction

96 x 107 x 118 cm

Mixed media; acrylic on wood, rubber pipes and ink

This installation was inspired by my frequent visits to the Chinese medicine doctor who defeated my teenage tribulations- acne, horrible skin conditions, and irregular period cramps. It was during this experience that I realized how interconnected these issues were, each problem contributing to and exacerbating the others. To treat these concerns, he employed an unconventional approach- acupuncture on my feet- which left me perplexed yet fascinated. This installation captures my experience and the wisdoms of Chinese medicine philosophy. The human body, like a universe, requires delicate equilibrium, with Chi flowing freely. We must transcend surface appearances to see the intricate connections within. By deconstructing and reconstructing the human body, I hope to convey the connections between body parts and acupoints, highlighting the significance of balance in achieving stability and strength.

Process

This is an artwork that required multiple trials of experimentation. I constructed a cardboard model, sawed the wooden boards myself, then painted and constructed the sculpture.
