Leanne Lin
Hi! My name is Leanne and I am a 18-year-old artist born in Taiwan. I grew up as a third-cultural-kid and I am currently based in New York, studying visual arts, art history, and psychology at Columbia University.
Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Coming from a family of artists, I grew up surrounded by creativity—my grandfather, a traditional Chinese calligrapher and painter, instilled in me an appreciation for legacy, tradition, and cultural roots. At the same time, my experiences growing up in different places, especially Shanghai, shaped my artistic voice, inspiring me to experiment with themes of identity, culture, and materiality.
Lately, I’ve been exploring the intersection of art with business, psychology, and curation, finding new ways to bridge creativity with different disciplines.
Hope you enjoy my portfolio!

Artist statement
Inspired by my Taiwanese heritage and early expatriate life, my artworks capture the dynamic tapestry of my life and shared human experiences. Growing up in a family of artists, particularly guided by my grandfather, a traditional Chinese painter and calligrapher, has profoundly shaped my artistic identity. His influence instilled in me a profound appreciation for bold artistic exploration, blending Western and Eastern elements, and embracing the authenticity of art. Simultaneously, my expatriate experiences have left lasting impacts on my artistic endeavors. I've come to understand that art serves as a unifying force, incorporating diverse cultures while transcending differences as a universal language. Hence, art is not just a dance between my inner world and connection with the external, but also a powerful means to share my experiences and create profound impacts resonating with my audience.
My body of work is a diverse collection, each piece intimately intertwined with my personal experiences and artistic perspective. The “Reconstruction” installation was inspired by my visits to the Chinese Medicine doctor and the lessons he taught me; the “Skin Deep Awareness” installation captures my social commentary on using animal skin for luxury products; and “The Best” color pencil drawing was a response to the effects of social media on my life. Among my entire body of artworks, the "Visually Impaired Series" holds a significant place. This series was inspired by my experiences as a volunteer interacting with the visually impaired, and I hoped to create a collection of artworks that would convey the lessons I learned from the connections established during these interactions. Through this series, I hope to highlight our common human experiences and emotions through art.
Working with mixed media artworks is my passion, and I pursue every project with uncertainty and bold explorations. To me, embracing this uncertainty is what leads to the unpredictable, yet innovative, discoveries that allow me to express my ideas authentically and powerfully. I enjoy exploring unconventional mediums, blending elements that may not naturally go together, and venturing into new artistic realms. Experimenting with silicone, Gelli print, Chinese paint, and various mediums I have never used before not only allowed me to discover the mediums that truly capture my ideas, but also enriched my whole creative process. Exploring the intricate connections between my ideas and materials allows me to convey emotions or subjects more intertwined with the work itself.
My artistic journey explores the dimensions of self and shared humanity, an ongoing conversation that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the ever-evolving interplay of personal and universal stories. With the various functions of art, I hope to create lasting impacts that resonate with the diverse chords of human experiences.
