Modern Utopia
300 x 400 cm
Chinese coloring, oil pastel, and acrylic on cloth
This large-scale painting is inspired by my grandparents’ traditional Taiwanese Courtyard house and wisteria flower garden, showing the coexistence of urban modernity and nature. As I have always lived in cities, the absence of such natural sites in my vicinity has led me to value it more. Therefore, I wanted to present the dichotomy between nature and cities, as well as how they can harmonize in a beautiful way. The painting can be displayed as both an installation with cubic plinths underneath to mimic the urban landscape and a curtain hanging on a wall.
This is the installation presented as a curtain hanging on a wall. The color choices of blue and purple are inspired by my grandpa's wisteria flower garden and the ink strokes are inspired by his Chinese painting style. The natural and organic figures disguised in the composition symbolize the harmony between humans and nature.
